After spending most of my training preparing for a half marathon and having to adjust my plans due to scheduling issues, I ended up signing up for a local 10K race. I had about 3 weeks to adjust my training.
The course and conditions were tougher than expected. Lot of serious hills and a very strong wind. I was hoping for a 7:45/mile pace, with a power target of 315. After 4 miles of hitting 315, I was feeling great, so I picked it up for the rest of the time. I ended up with an average power of 321, which translated to a pace of 7:44/mile. So I was able to hit (and exceed) my goal, even in less than ideal conditions. Plus, I finished knowing I had more in the tank. But I think this gives me a good baseline for moving forward. So I’m happy with it. Thanks for all the inspiration, encouragement, and great advice!
