For this time trial test after completed the warm up including some strides.
Do we run the next 20 minutes full on as if we were racing in that given time or should we run it for an effort that we can hold for an hour in that 20 minute. In order to determine the LTHR or LTP.

Furthermore, do we do this trial on flat or on undulating terrian. Currently, I am in hilly area.

    Many Thanks

    Matt Fitzgerald

    Hi Carrie-Anne,

The 20-minute trial is meant to be done as a race-level effort. Running for 20 minutes at your estimated 1-hour pace is not recommended because it assumes you already know what you’re trying to find out.

    Hi Matt,

Thank you for getting back to me. That good to know that I was doing it correctly.

The second question, should this 20 min Test be done on flat or undulating terrian? Lately, I have been doing on undulating terrian with at least 30m elevation gain in total.

    Matt Fitzgerald

It should be relatively flat unless you train by power, in which case undulating terrain is fine.
