Hi all – I am planning on doing IM 70.3 Chattanooga on May 22. I have a local Olympic distance that was originally slated for May 1 and would have lined up perfectly with the last recovery week for distance & effort. That race got moved to up to Apr 24th.

What is best practice for adjusting the plan between those weeks or even just the weekend long rides? Should I just add an extra hour to the ride the weekend of the 1st and call it good? I do not want to risk compromising training 1 month out from a 70.3.

    Thanks in advance!

As your B race is 5 weeks out this won’t pose a risk to your A race. As long as you stay consistent in your training taking that weekend to do your Olympic Distance event will not have a major impact on the next 5 weeks of training (and is great practice). I wouldn’t recommend you try and add on any distance the following weekend. I would suggest a light swim and bike the day before your Olympic distance event, and then if you are feeling good you can do a low zone 2 active recovery run or bike that afternoon of up to an hour (if you feel good that is), then take your recovery day on Monday, back to business Tuesday.

    Thank you, Leyla!
