I see TrainerRoad’s logo in a cluster of logos 80/20 Endurance “works with” on the home page to 8020Endurance.com, but I couldn’t find any info on the site or elsewhere about how 8020 and TrainerRoad work together. Is there a way to have 8020 Training Plan workouts in TrainingPeaks auto pushed to TrainerRoad? Would someone want this over just riding the workout on their Garmin with the trainer and ANT+ FE-C?October 8, 2020 at 9:51 pm #8688
Ted, thanks for checking in and using our plans. The integration from your on-line 80/20 plan and Trainer Road is managed by TrainingPeaks. We don’t program anything speciual for Trainer Road into the plans: we create a generic Power-based workout that TrainingPeaks then can spit out as an ERG file. See the “Manual” section at the bottom of https://help.trainingpeaks.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000325647-Structured-Workout-Export for details.
The short answer is you need 1) An 80/20 plan on TrainingPeaks and 2) the Power-based version of that plan. This allows you to export the workout as an ERG file> how does it get to Trainer Road? I don’t know, that’s up to Trainer Road. Devices like Wahoo, Garmin and Stryd have automatics syncing features that send the wowrkouts from TrainingPeaks to the device automatically. I *think* Trainer Road is a manual export only at this time.

I asked the same question via email. Thank you David for responding quickly and encouraging me to post to the forum so everyone has access.
So, you can sync training peaks and Trainer Road. I just did it!
You have to log in via a web browser and not through the app. It’s under account and then ride sync. Super easy…October 13, 2020 at 4:48 pm #8991tedcParticipant
Ok – I have used TrainerRoad for years… years before diving into 8020 training plans. So the next question (serious question) is why would someone continue to use TrainerRoad with the 8020 workouts sync’d from TrainingPeaks? Because someone is reliant on an iPhone and doesn’t have a bike computer that can control a smart trainer over ANT+ FE-C? Group workouts? I had used TrainerRoad on an iPhone for years, and initially was skeptical that my Garmin Edge 830 would provide a similar experience with a structured workout. After a short learning period, I’ve got the Edge 830 running smoothly with 8020 workouts and my KICKR.October 14, 2020 at 3:03 pm #8996
Ted, hopefully someone else can comment here. I’m not familiar with Trainer Road. But, if someone was already embedded into that ecosystem, and didn’t want to shell out more money for a Garmin, the may be completely satisfied with Trainer Road, especially now that senojyada confirms that you can sync Trainer Road with TrainingPeaks.

I have been on TR for a long time too and prefer how they control my trainer(s). I have a Garmin 1030, and Taxc Neo 2T, and Quarq crank based power meter. TR will use the Quarq as the source of power to control the Taxc. This gives me the same power source to ride outside and inside. Otherwise it’s sometimes 15-20 watts off and not a fixed offset. I’ve not seen where a Garmin head unit will power match like TR, but that would cool to find out it would. Also, the workout creator is very user friendly too if you want/need to modify a workout a little.October 27, 2020 at 11:50 am #9095snail.raceParticipant
Not sure that it adds to the discussion, but I ratify senojydna’s opinion. I have no idea how to correct the offset between my Kickr Snap and Vector 3s pedals because it’s all over the place. TR is the only platform that I am aware of that offers this feature, and I won’t consider another platform without it. This thread actually helped convince me to purchase an 8020 plan.November 16, 2020 at 8:41 am #9276Stan the ManParticipant
I used an 8020 plan last year with TrainerRoad and my Wahoo Kickr Bike. It’s pretty easy but it will take a few minutes each week to take the ERG file (which can be found in TrainingPeaks) and then import it into the TrainerRoad Workout Builder (which you can download from the TrainerRoad website). It then becomes a “custom workout” in your TR account. The link I attached explains how to do it. Overall, pretty simple to do. Hope this helps you.November 25, 2020 at 11:51 am #9371
Stan the Man, you don’t have to do that manually anymore. Unless, you wanted to customize the workout. Otherwise, TR automatically will pull a few days workouts from Training Peaks each time you open it. It’s called ride sync…has worked perfectly for me so far.December 10, 2020 at 5:02 pm #firstname.lastname@example.orgParticipant
Jumping on a fairly old thread here but I wondered if any of you guys know if you can use ERG mode on a smart trainer (kickr) with the 80:20 plans exported from TP to T’road? Ive used TR for years but only with their own workouts which use ERG mode.. but I wondered if the workouts from 80:20 let you use ERG mode too?December 11, 2020 at 9:06 am #9533
Johhny, yes TR should absolutely should let you use the workouts in ERG mode. It will probably pick the 50% range on TR, but every device is a bit different.
Per my other post, I think ERG mode is not the best way to perform the workouts.

David, can you point me to the other post that discusses why erg mode is not the best way to perform the workouts? Thanks. PeterDecember 13, 2020 at 7:04 pm #9556
