Adding swim to the Oly Level 0 Tri plan

    Just picked up the Oly level 0 plan to use as my winter workout plan before I start my HIM Level 1 plan in 2022.

    Couple of swim questions. First, I don’t want to swim on Saturdays. Does it really matter what days you align the swims to. I guess this would be a question for all the tri plans.

    Second, I’ll be adding a third swim every week. Any recommendations on what/how you would add the workout. Is it as simple as do what you want as long as it adheres to 80/20.

    No problem moving those swim workouts to any day you want. Not just Saturday’s, but any given swim can be moved. Unlike the bike and run, swim workouts have very little impact on the rest of the day. Of course, it’s best if you don’t have your swims all occur 3 or 4 days in a row, if you can spread them out a bit your training will be more effective.

    I’d recommend using our free swim workouts at https://www.8020endurance.com/8020-workout-library/. Rotate between adding an easy workout with a hard workout each week. That will let you add more swim workouts, and keep you close to the 80/20 ratios.

    Had never considered rotating easy/hard but makes total sense.

    Never go more than two days between swims. Once had a swim coach say that after two days you start losing fitness. Not sure if that’s true or not but I’ve always stuck with that. That was some 40 years ago.
