Looking for feedback, my upcoming marathon race was going to be this weekend which has been cancelled but have decided to do another the following weekend ( delayed by one week). I was thinking that I would repeat week 17 of the marathon level 2 and then again next week go and do week 18 (seconded week of the taper) does this sound right? or what would you suggest?
Hope you don’t mind me answering this one instead of Matt.
I would actually repeat Week 16 over Week 17. Week 17 is a taper, and that just makes the taper too long. It does mean a pretty brutal repeat of Week 16, but that’s a better solution than a 3-week taper.
Hi Dave, not at all, and it makes sense. A question week 16 has a marathon pace 31km trial long run which I would think would be too much 7 days out. Should this run be a 31km deletion run instead? or run the last 10km at marathon pace.
Craig, just to make sure we are on the same page, you’re repeating Week 16, so your training is:
Week 15
Week 16
Week 16
Week 17
Week 18
Therefore, the 31K trial is not 7 days out from your race, it’s still 14 days out from your race.
I’m comfortable with that trial back-to-back week-ends but you can absolutely modify based on how you feel that second attempt to something less intense.
Woops, ok, abort. My mistake, as I see now that you specified the original race date was this week-end.
There was not enough time to stop the taper in this case. Once you finished Week 17, best to carry on the taper another week and duplicate Week 17 this week. Not ideal, but a 3-week taper is the next best thing to a 2-week taper.
