Depletion Runs and Bike Rides

I’m currently having a go at the racing weight program and really enjoying it! I also just read your blog post on intermittent fasting and it triggered some thinking.

I’ve noticed that generally 1 (sometimes 2) days following the depletion runs and / or bike rides I feel pretty awful and my ability to swim bike or run at pace is a bit diminished. I’m guessing this is because of the complete depletion of my glycogen carb stores?

Funnily enough during the depletion bike or run itself I feel ok.

I’m guessing that if you did this all the time (I.e. like in an intermittent fasting program, ones ability to deliver quality workouts would be significantly diminished?).

    Thanks

    Gareth

    Hi Gareth,

Your hunch seems plausible to me. I don’t know if what you experience is common, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it is. Now you’ve got me curious!

    Coach Matt
