Fitting race into Marathon plan?

I’m using 80/20 level 2 to train for a Marathon on October 9th. There is a 11 mile race that I would like to do the week of my 20 mile long run (training week 11). Could I skip the short intervals and do my long run on Friday and race on Sunday? If so, what speed should I do the race? I’m currently feeling pretty good about a 8 min/mile race pace and think more race and race-pace training is what I need but I’m also concerned about overdoing it. I usually do my long runs at around 9:30 – 10 min/mile.

You can rely on the plan as written to prepare you optimally to race your best race. The steady state runs and marathon-pace runs will give you all the time you need at and near race pace. The only reason to insert a “B” race is to race it, not to further your preparation for the marathon. You certainly won’t lose anything by replacing the 20-miler with an 11-mile race. With warm-up and cool down you’re looking at 15 miles for the day and a harder workout than you can ever get without a number pinned to your shirt. Just forget the 20-miler, train easy for two days before and after the race, go all-out in the race, and move on.
