    Hi,
Newbie to 80/20 and first post here. I have a couple of questions:
I was going start the free run maintenance level 1 plan (PACE version) for a couple of weeks until I start the half marathon plan but the discount code 2020Aid does not work. Have I got the wrong code?

I a 54 years old, 200LB been running for c. 4 years (having started with couch to 5K) and did my first ever race (a half marathon) on 2:09 3 weeks ago. Been working with an online human coach but cant afford that any more so looking at 80/20. Was running 3X a week + 1 strength session. Does the Half Marathon Level 1 sound about the right place to start.

    Thanks in advance.

    Dad,

What is the error are you seeing when trying to use the code? Since TP only let’s you use the code once, you’ve probably used the code already. If so, use 2020Aid2. Otherwise, please confirm the error you are receiving and I’ll look into it.

Based on your feedback, I think the HM Level 0 plan is a better fit for you then the Level 1. In fact, I’d recommend the Run Maintenance Level 0 plan over the Level 1 plan at least for the first 6 weeks, and then you can switch to the Level 1 plan for free.

Thanks for the prompt reply David, it worked this AM – perhaps it was just a glitch or I was doing something wrong.

I have taken your advice and gone for L0 Maintenance and will then go to L0 HM and move up if required. Last time I tried an online system it was too hard and I injured myself and was out of running for about a month – so thanks for the reminder!

One last question someone may know. When configuring the Garmin Datafield I put the threshold pace in as calculated on this website (5:51 min/KM in my case), what do I put in the ‘Smooth Pace (1s-5s average)’ field? It is currently defaulted to 1. I assume I leave the other fields at their defaults if I am not using Power or Heartrate.

    First run today!

    Dad,

Make sure you are following the instructions in our document https://www.8020endurance.com/understanding-trainingpeaks-workout-plan/ as you won’t be setting your threshold in Garmin, you’ll be setting your threshold in TP, and TP will push your custom zones and threshold to your device. You won’t use the Garmin zones or threshold at all, TP takes over the workouts completely. The 80/20 system does not use the Garmin zones or threshold.

Regarding smoothing, no strong preference here, it’s up to you. I personally think 1 second is too fast, 3 seconds is a good setting for Pace and Power smoothing.

Thanks. Posting in case any other newbie comes across this who has the same questions.

So I think I get it now; the Smoothing in the Garmin 8020 App is the time the measurement is averaged over – so it does not keep constantly changing before you can read it. I set it at 3 secs which worked for me

I am using Pace as the 8020 measure and set the TP and Garmin 8020 App threshold etc for Pace and as not using Power or HR I have not configured them in TP or the Garmin 8020 App.

    Thanks for the prompt help.
