    Hi!

I have a half and a full ironman planned for this year. Should of done them last year but….. you know.

My full ironman training plan is due to start on the 10th of May but my half has been moved due to covid and is not until 20th June.
If i have two weeks off after the half i will be coming into my ironman plan 8 weeks late.

Will my fitness from the half get me through?

I am following the beginners plan.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

    Jono

    Hi Jono,

I’m not quite following you. Are you on a Level 0 Ironman plan or Ironman 70.3 plan? And which week number are you in currently? And is this the correct order/dates of the two races?

    May 10 – full Ironman
    June 20 – Ironman 70.3

Once I have a clear picture of your situation I can offer advice.

    Hi Matt,

Sorry! I should have included more info.

I have a half on June 20th and a full on October 3rd.

Im currently following one of your 70.3 plans. I am in week 8 of that plan.
My half was originally scheduled for the 16th May.
I planned to rearrange my current plan to finish on the new date of the half.
That would leave me starting my full ironman plan 8 weeks late if i was to have two weeks off after the half.

I hope this helps clear things up.

Thanks for the fast reply and great plans.

Thanks for the additional information. It should be okay to take just one down week after the 70.3 and then start the IM plan at Week 8. You will be fit enough from your prior training that you can get away with skipping the base training phase. I also suggest you read (or reread) the section on taking a seasonal approach to planning your training in our 80/20 TRIATHLON book. This may give you some ideas about fine-tuning your training to ensure you don’t burn out. Good luck!
