I’m looking to do a sprint triathlon on Sunday in week 9 of my level 2 70.3 plan. I’m reading in the book that I should probably do a half recovery week, but I’m not clear on how to do that. I would just swap weeks 9 and 10, but I’m going on vacation week 10 and need the lower hour week. This is a B race, so I don’t want to do a full taper for it.
How are you tolerating the training so far? If you feel pretty on top of the workload, then I suggest you cancel Week 9’s weekend workouts, move Friday’s run to Saturday, race Sunday, and resume the plan after your vacation.
I don’t start the 70.3 plan until Monday. Here’s what I’ve been doing lately; it’s been going well, no injuries to report:
I did a marathon with the level 2 plan in March which went well, took a week off, then started weeks 4-8 of L2 70.3 for a race in June. My wife had to have surgery, so I took a week off for that and deferred the June race to next year. Jumped on the maintenance plan from there and tapered for a sprint this past Sunday (first triathlon). Used the guidance in the book on race pacing, and exceeded my expectations for the race. And most importantly I had a great time. Taking this week basically off except for a recovery run to get ready for the 70.3 block on Monday.
