How to incorporate “social rides”?

Just about to start the 70.3 plan and I’m wondering how to accommodate 100-140km “social rides” with my friends that are a normal part of my calendar each week.

They are typically 100-140km in length and taken at a cruising speed with “intervals” aka races up some hills or for town signs.

Can I do the weekly intervals ride across a much larger distance / time span if the extra time is spent at zone 2?

Monitoring intensity becomes a challenge in group rides, but group rides are such a great way to stay motivated that it’s worth the accommodation.

Yes, for sure you can take similar intervals from Tuesdays’ Solo Ride 1 and insert them into the longer Saturday Group Ride 2. Solo Ride 1 then becomes a Zone 2 effort.

While the order and frequency we put in the plans is “ideal” there are multipole ways to modify the plans to maintain the 80/20 ratios, and this is one of them.
