Hi – I’m entering the specific phase of the IM70.3 plan. I’m looking ahead to the CAe36 and RAe2 workouts. The instructions say “…Very specific instruction is required for all Cycling Aerobic and Running Aerobic Interval workouts. 80/20 running is built on avoiding Zone X, the ineffective Zone between Zone 2 and 3. However, for 70.3 racing, Zone 2 can be too slow, and Zone 3 is far too high. Therefore, some Zone X is acceptable during these Aerobic intervals.”
Is this code for “if you feel good enough do the Z2 intervals in Zone X race pace”?
Gareth, yes that’s it, and more like “if you think your actual race day pace will be Zone X, train in Zone X” which is slightly different than “if you feel good, train in Zone X” which can be a trap. The RAe and CAe intervals should be done at the pace you anticipate for race day.
