ParticipantFirst I have really enjoyed running since I read the book and have followed the advice! Thanks a bunch, it’s made running so much more enjoyable.
Currently I’m following the Level 1 Marathon training plan from the book and I see a Marathon Simulation Run in my near future. I can’t seem to find any reference to it in the book. Maybe I’m in denial but, am I going to run a full 26.2 miles on that day?
Thanks much,

ParticipantThe workout library on this site here has it as a 20 mile run. The breakdown is:
1.5 miles Zone 1, 16 miles at race pace, 1 mile Zone 2, 1.5 miles Zone 1
I did think it was weird that the book didn’t actually mention the breakdown of that one.

KeymasterThis is the Run Long Fast Finish 2 in the book. We (and our copy editor) apologize for the omission in the book.

ParticipantThank you for this clarification. I have noticed the same for all 3 levels of the Marathon training plans in the book. I wanted to follow the level 2 plan, is it the same workout for all 3 levels, i.e. “Run Long Fast Finish 2” ?
Thank you in advance.

KeymasterYes, any run that is missing a description in the book is the Run Long Fast Finish 2.

KeymasterYes! For all plans in the 80/20 Running book that are missing that title, it’s the Run Long Fast Finish 2.

ParticipantI’m honestly a little confused and I’m hoping for some clarification. 🙂
From this thread, I read (from @David Warden) that the ‘Marathon Simulator’ which occurs on week 15 (at least in my copy of the book) should be the “Run Long Fast Finish 2” which I see in my book as 12 miles (0.5 Zone 1, 10.5 Zone 2, 1 Zone 3).
However, the marathon simulator workout on this site is 20 miles (as @bensmith91 pointed out above).
However, Matt Fitzgerald’s blog post (https://www.outsideonline.com/health/running/training-advice/marathon/workout-of-the-week-the-simulator/) says:
“The format couldn’t be simpler. The Simulator consists of running 26.2 kilometers (roughly 16.3 miles) at one’s goal marathon pace. Why 26.2 kilometers? Two reasons. First, at 62 percent of the full marathon distance, 16.3 miles is long enough to challenge and increase one’s capacity to sustain a targeted marathon pace and to provide a legitimate indication of the realism of a marathon goal. Yet it’s not so long that it will destroy the runner’s legs for the next three days.”
This seems closer to the 20 mile marathon simulator on this site (16 miles at race pace).
Finally, after buying the level 2 subscription on this site, it lists out the marathon simulator (during week 16) is 19.3 mi (0.6 Z1, 1.2 Z2, 16.1 MP, 1.2 Z1).
Which is the correct one I should be using?
Thanks so much!

KeymasterGreg, sorry for the confusion. Run Long Fast Finish 2 and Marathon Simulator are two different workouts in the book and occur at different times. The RLFF2 just says “long run” and is missing the description, but the marathon simulator says “Marathon Simulator” but lacks the description.
