To my knowledge they are or at least were identical. I think that some adjustments were done on the online plans at some point and I don’t know if those were also incorporated into newer editions of the book.
However, for me, the main benefit from the online plans comes from the integration into Trainingpeaks and the synchronization with my watch.
The plans in 80/20 Triathlon are almost identical to the on-line plans. The plans in 80/20 Running are completely different from the online plans, as the book was published in 2013 and we’ve made significant changes since then.
The Triathlon plans will begin to diverge more and more from the book, as we update them each year.
thanks a lot for this clarification. I understand that it’s already an advantage to have them online, even if the plans are similar.
One follow-up-question (i hope it’s okay to not open a new thread):
I train with Run Power (Stryd) – what is best practice to get the workouts from Trainingpeaks to Garmin? As far as i know Run Power is not supported for workouts on Garmin (yet).

heiko, the best (and only) way to get a power workout into your Garmin device using a Stryd is the Power-based online plans. There is no other way than using a TP structured workout that is written for Power, which our plans do.
Okay so there is a way – i’ll give it a try. My main concern is that apparently i really need to use the stryd workout app on my watch – i’d prefer the native run app (additional customization possible). But this is of course something only Garmin could change.
