I completed ironman uk last Sunday, 4th july for those in the US :), and I would like any info on how best to recover, when to start training again-for maintenance- nothing else planned this year.

Ive been looking at the half ironman level 0 as maintenance, up to about week 9, then repeat, until I have enough points accrued to start the process of getting permission to do something next year.

Ive taken this week off, eaten lots of protein, and also some of the bad stuff. Loved it!!

First of all, congratulations on your Ironman finish! As to your question, there’s really no “should” in these situations. You have options. Unless you’re the Iron Cowboy, two weeks of chilling out is a minimum requirement for recovery after an Ironman. After that, what you do next depends on your future race plans, you’re motivation level, and how you feel physically. If your basic agenda is to stay in the game with your training–keeping fit enough to be ready to ramp up toward race fitness when you’re ready–then your proposed plan of cycling through the first nine weeks of the Level 0 IM 70.3 plan sounds fine. The other simple solution is using our triathlon maintenance plan.
