See Planning Your Race Season
Two weeks out is not ideal. That’s a critical training day, the last full brick, to dial in your pacing, nutrition, gear, etc. Sure, much experience will be gained in an actual Oly race, but the pacing and nutrition are not the same. Plus, you miss out on a 4 hour workout that directly builds fitness in place of a 2.5 hour workout.
It’s not a terrible idea, it just is not the best for your 70.3 event. But, it reminds me of owning a really nice car and only driving it 3 times a year to keep it in perfect shape. Sure, if you drive it to the grocery store, it’s gonna get the doors dinged up. But it sure is sweet to drive it to the grocery store anyway.
