Not looking for medical advice, just any experience welcome. I have pulled a muscle a week before my second half marathon (Brighton Half). Am I right in thinking it is generally better to rest and repair the muscle as I am not going to get any improvement in my fitness now anyway.
If I were you I would not resort to complete rest unless it was a severe strain. Instead I would switch over to an alternative activity or activities such as hiking or cycling that I could do with an acceptable level of discomfort. You’ll actually recover more quickly that way while also maintaining fitness better than you would with total rest.
