I am new and looking at IronMan Level 1 plan. The timing suits me but how do I know what is the end state of the plan? Meaning for level 1 plan – is there a target timing of 14hr finishing time or level 3 sub 10 hours? If i am aiming for 14hrs, which plan should i go for?
Also I prefer to do long run or ride that doesnt align with the IronMan level plan, can I go ahead and do my long run/ride or brick and not stick with the plan? Any advise on this?
No training plan can predict a race outcome time. your best bet is to compare plans and pick the one you can realistically adhere to over the full duration, stay consistent and be able to follow the plan as best you can. This will give you the best fitness progression and adaptation for a successful race day. As you get closer to the event, based on your training you will be in a better position to start to predict (and even then for your first it’s a rough prediction) your race time. I would even caution to only do this prediction for your nutrition planning – but don’t bet your life on it.
I’m not sure what you will be doing different on your long runs and rides compared to the plan. My advice is to never mix too many randoms into your training – random training often gives random results.
