I just got through reading the article “Planning Your Race Season” and have a few follow up questions for executing a B-Race properly without sacrificing too much of A-Race training. I am following the 10k running plan and am in my 9th week (a recovery week) and was considering doing a 4 mile tune-up race this weekend to practice racing since I’m a little rusty at racing. If the race is on Saturday, would I just replace one of my higher intensity runs with the race (swap the Friday workout for a Saturday race) and do a foundation run Thursday and Friday? Also, what should I do about the Sunday long run? Or should the intensity be reduced more?
Hi,
your plan sounds good around a 4 mile event in terms of foundation runs Thursday, Friday, Race Saturday and then long run as scheduled Sunday.
As it’s a shorter event then what you are training for, should fit into the plan fine.
