I followed the 80/20 Running: 2021 Edition Marathon Level 1 plan and ran a virtual marathon on Sep 5. From Sep 6 to Sep 27 I will not be able to run to recover from a surgery. On Sep 13 I started walking the dog for 6 km daily 😉. Is it safe to jump into the 80/20 Running: 2021 Edition Half Marathon Level 1 plan to run a C level HM on Nov 7? I mean safe from a fitness perspective, considering that I had the fitness to run a FM and that I lost fitness during the break?
Assuming you run between September 27th and November 7th, you will be ready to start the Level 1 Half-Marathon Plan. Might I suggest you use one of out Starting Out/Starting Over plans to get back on the horse?
Thanks for your answer. Just to be sure, I will resume running on Sep 27 and have the HM race on Nov 7. My thought was to use the Level 1 Half-Marathon Plan during this period. Where does the Starting Out/Starting Over plan fit in?
Sorry, I misunderstood your question. I thought you were asking if it was okay to START the Level 1 Half-Marathon Plan on 11/5. I don’t think you should go straight from three weeks of zero running straight to Week 9 of the plan. In fact, you really shouldn’t follow ANY readymade plan in these circumstances. You need to create a customized, adaptive schedule that meets you right where you are on September 27th and builds as much fitness as is realistically possible in six weeks. Here are some guidelines for approaching the process:
