I am using the Marathon level 2 plan and it happens to work out that there is a local marathon offered on the date that I am scheduled to do the RLMS 20 mile run (three weeks prior to my A race). Can I run the organized marathon instead of following the RLMS instructions? I would be happy to run the extra miles in zone 1 as I am not looking to PR – just to take advantage of a fully supported long run.
Eric, absolutely. This is a great opportunity to perform that workout in a more entertaining environment. You are exactly right, simply pass through the finish chute and keep going to complete the workout as scheduled (ignore the puzzled looks of the other finishers). Use discipline in your pacing, as you’ll need to pace the HM at a Marathon pace.
