Split ride between trainer and the road?

For some of my Sat rides the plan is to warm up, do some hard/short intervals and then ride in Z2 for an extended period. Would there be any reason to not do the intervals on the trainer and then hit the road for z2 portion?

I need to ride early and have a hard time doing intervals in the dark… Thinking I could just do the interval portion in the garage and then hit the roads for the z2. Thanks.

I do this all the time. Sun sets at 7, I’m caught at my desk until 6, need to do a 3 hour ride, an hour outside and 2 indoors.

I can’t think of a disadvantage to this. Maybe as you get close to your A race of course you’ll want outdoor to be your primary as much as possible, but many a peak FTP is built inside.
