For a considerable amount of my 70.3 training block, I will not have access to a pool or a lake where I can do my swim workouts. I am not incredibly upset about this given that I am just using this training plan and the race to get myself back in shape. That being said, my friend recommended I substitute the lack of swim with additional biking. What are your thoughts?
Yes you can substitute your planned swim sessions with a run of similar duration and intensity. For the bike add about 20% volume to get a similar training effect. Whilst this will not build specific fitness and skills for the swim leg of the race, it will keep your overall fitness at the right level for the 70.3 distance.
