    Hi All,

I have just bought an Ironman plan but I do all of my swimming in open water, meaning that even if I follow the zone drills, the sessions of “rest” are not quite so easy as they would be in a pool.

Has anybody else had to adapt their plan to include only open water swimming, and if so what did you do?

    Thanks in advance,

    Matt Fitzgerald

    Hey Snooky,

At various times, I too have done all of my swim training in open water. It’s not a bad way to go. The best way to adapt our swim workouts to open water is to replace timed rests with a “rest till ready” approach. When you feel ready for the next interval, you probably are ready, regardless of how little or how much time it takes on the clock.

    Thanks Matt. Will do that.
