I consistently exceed my planned TSS on completion of workouts by two or more times. Do I need to recalculate my HR Zones? Even my foundation runs have this issue. I’m not au fait with the metrics yet having just started an 80/20 plan. This is my 3rd week but I can honestly say, whatever I am doing, I feel much more rested and able to execute the workouts without tiring myself out. I have only had one rest day in the last 21, something that would not have occurred in other training I’ve done to date. I feel great!

    M,

Welcome to 80/20, and thanks for your great feedback. For a full review of the PMC and the 80/20 system, please see our document Understanding and Adjusting Your Performance Management Chart. There is a known bug in TP where predicted hrTSS will never match actual hrTSS, addressed in that document.

However, the bug makes hsTSS about 20% off, not 2-3 times, so something is still amiss. I suspect that you might still be using tp Default zones instead of specific 80/20 bike and run HR zones. Please also review the document Understanding Your TrainingPeaks Structured Workout Plan to ensure your zones are correct.

If you’ve followed those steps, and still see the issue, let’s attach your account to mine in TP and I can have a direct look.

Thanks David, hsTSS is a better reflection. I have yet to do my HR zone tests, was awaiting the arrival of my HR strap and have just received it. So .. the next question is, once the test is done and I put the details into the HR Zone calculator, is it then a matter of updating in TP then they will automatically apply to my plan for the future?

Correct. Once you nail down your actual LTHR, you’ll enter that LTHR into TP as 80/20 zones per our document Understanding Your TrainingPeaks Structured Workout Plan. Your predicted hrTSS will still be wrong, due to that bug, but much closer.

There is another bug in TP that a change in zones does not automatically push your new zones to your device, so read the Q&A section of that same document for steps on how to address that one too.

    David
