ParticipantI am just starting week 5 of my Ironman Level 0 plan. Its my first Ironman and I wanted to make sure I don’t get injured training. Goal 1 is to get to the starting line, and Goal 2 is finishing well.
I am completing all of my workouts as prescribed and as expected often the most challenging part is staying in Zone 2 and not drifting higher like naturally would have.
When do I know its time to level up to Ironman 1 and is a certain week a good time to make that change? For example, going into a rest week, after a rest week, or it doesn’t even matter?

KeymasterE,
Great job on your compliance so far! The decision to switch to another Level is based on a “yes” to two questions:
– Are you adhering to 95% of the plan (frequency, duration, intensity)?
– Can you commit to the hours required of the next next level? If so, it’s time to move on. The best time to switch is coming into a rest week. So your first week of the Level 1 plan would be a rest week.

ParticipantThanks for advice on making a switch. Your team has loaded the new Ironman Level 1 plan for me and I’ll start week 6 on Monday.
The plan loaded however does not follow the Ironman Level 1 plan I am looking at in your 80/20 Triathlon book (p. 197). Is that on purpose or should the training plan match that exactly?

ParticipantMystery solved – the 70.3 plan was accidently loaded instead of the Ironman plan. It was corrected and I’m all set now.

KeymasterE, just wanted to acknowledge your post, and apologize for the error. Glad we got it sorted out for you.

ParticipantI just finished Ironman Level 0 week 5 and upgraded to Level 1. I see that in Training Peaks my new Level now ends the week after my event (IM Wisconsin- 12 Sept).
Looks like like level 1 is one week longer than my old level 0.
Does that mean I skip week 6 on Level 1 and move to week 7 so my plan ends on the same race day? I should be going into a rest week, so I assume I just skip the rest week and pick up the new plan’s schedule?
Thanks

KeymasterEric,
First, unload and then reload your plan with an END date of 09/12, not a the start date of your original Level 0 plan. This will sync up your calendar correctly.
Then, cut the CAn8 this week to just 90 minutes (end the Zone 2 portion of the ride 60 minutes early) and change the RF12 from 90 minutes to 60 minutes Zone 2.
Then, follow the plan as written from next week forward.
