Questions

Plan FAQ

How long is the Norwegian 10K plan?

The Norwegian 10K plan is 12 weeks long. It comes in 4 levels, Level 0 through Level 3, so choose the volume tier you can sustain. Pricing starts at $39.95 on TrainingPeaks, or it's included with Team 80/20.

What is the Norwegian method?

A training approach popularized by Norwegian elite endurance athletes, built on frequent threshold work in strictly controlled doses — hard enough to drive adaptation, controlled enough to repeat week after week without digging a fatigue hole. These plans translate that structure for self-coached athletes using the intensity data available on TrainingPeaks.

How is this different from the 80/20 plans?

Both keep the majority of training at low intensity. The difference is how the quality portion is organized: 80/20 plans vary the hard 20 percent across the intensity spectrum, while the Norwegian-method plans concentrate it into controlled threshold sessions. Neither is universally better — they're different tools, and the right one depends on how you respond and what you enjoy sustaining.

Do I need lactate testing?

No. Professional Norwegian-method athletes use lactate meters; these plans control threshold intensity through the heart-rate, pace, and power targets your existing devices measure. You get the method's structure and restraint without pricking your ear mid-interval.

How is the plan delivered?

Through TrainingPeaks. After purchase you apply the plan to your TrainingPeaks calendar, and every workout appears with its structure and intensity targets. Workouts sync to most watches and head units, and your completed sessions are scored against the plan automatically.

Is this plan included in a Team 80/20 membership?

Yes. Team 80/20 is $16.58/month when paid annually and includes every 80/20 training plan, TrainingPeaks Premium, and Mind of Matt coaching. If you expect to use more than one plan, the membership costs less than buying plans individually.

What 80/20 runners say

  • Over the past 16 weeks on an 80/20 plan I have improved my fastest kilometer by almost a minute, my 5k went from 38:50 to 30:28, and I ran 10 km, 21 km and 30 km for the first time ever. Oh, and I lost 22 kg in the process!

    Franziska Kühne

    10K

  • The 80/20 principles allowed me to improve my times for 5K and 10K cross country races. Staying injury-free paves the way to get personal bests because you can finish the plan with no surprises and no steps back.

  • Training towards sustainable functionality is more important than pushing to the limit. By using the 80/20 system you have the luxury of both worlds!
