Understanding Your 80/20 Endurance Premium Mobility Plan
Purpose of the 80/20 Mobility Plans:
The 80/20 Mobility Plans are designed to improve flexibility, joint mobility, and movement efficiency, ensuring athletes maintain optimal range of motion and reduce injury risk. These plans are ideal for supporting endurance training by addressing the specific mobility needs of Runners and Triathletes.
Who These Plans Are For:
- Runners: Athletes focusing on mobility to enhance stride efficiency and reduce tightness in key muscle groups.
- Triathletes: Multi-sport athletes requiring mobility across swim, bike, and run disciplines.
Plan Levels:
- Level 1 (Standard): Suitable for athletes new to mobility work or seeking gentle improvements.
- Level 2 (Advanced): Designed for experienced athletes looking for more dynamic and sport-specific mobility.
Not sure which level fits? Ask Mind of Matt. It can see how much you are already training.
Plan Duration:
- 8 weeks, with 2 sessions per week for the Standard plan and 3 sessions per week for the Advanced plans
Plan Structure
For Runners:
- Addresses mobility in hips, hamstrings, calves, and lower back to optimize stride length and reduce stiffness.
For Triathletes:
- Includes swim-specific shoulder mobility, cycling-related hip and hamstring flexibility, and running-specific lower body mobility.
Plan Format
Each session follows a consistent structure to maximize efficiency and focus:
- Warm-Up (5 minutes):
Gentle dynamic movements to prepare the body for core work (e.g., cat-cow stretches, arm swings). - Main Set (15-20 minutes):
Targeted core exercises that enhance stability, endurance, and functional strength. - Cool-Down (5 minutes):
Static stretches or light mobility exercises to promote recovery and flexibility.
Plan Phases and Focus
Each plan progresses over the 8 weeks to gradually increase mobility and flexibility:
Weeks 1-4: Foundation Phase
- Focus: Gentle dynamic stretches and basic mobility drills to establish a foundation.
- Level 2 includes slightly longer holds and minor dynamic variations.
Weeks 5-8: Progression Phase
- Focus: Incorporating more advanced, sport-specific movements and dynamic mobility exercises.
- Level 2 introduces multi-planar movements and active stretches tailored to the athlete's discipline.
Equipment Needed
- Mat for floor-based stretches
- Resistance band (optional, for advanced dynamic stretches)
Key Guidelines
- Focus on Form: Perform each movement slowly and with control, prioritizing range of motion over speed.
- Breathe Through Movements: Use deep, steady breaths to support relaxation and flexibility.
- Adapt Movements: Modify exercises as needed for comfort or if you feel discomfort.
- Track Progress: Note improvements in flexibility or ease of movement over time.
Tracking Progress
- Log your weight, reps, and sets to monitor improvement.
- Note how the exercises feel (e.g., challenging, easy) to ensure progression matches your ability.
